Associate Counsellor

Key Responsibilities: 

  • Assess potential clients as to their suitability for counselling using the assessment process
  • Provide counselling both face to face and online/telephone
  • Provide counselling for individuals who have experienced/ experiencing mental health issues.
  • Provide crisis counselling sessions as required.
  • Participate in the development, delivery and evaluation of clients.
  • Provide telephone counselling support and information as required.
  • Be familiar with available and relevant statutory, voluntary and private sector services and contribute to a data bank of such information.
  • Keep professional records of all client contact and attend clinical management supervision in line with company procedures
  • Be prepared to undergo further training as required and keep updated with developments in professional practice
  • Actively pursue personal development and growth as a counsellor
  • Be familiar with and work according to Turning Point NI policies, procedures and practice

Personal Specification

The successful applicant will be required to have the following experience, qualifications and personal skills.

Essential

  • Minimum Level 5 Diploma in counselling or its equivalent
  • Minimum one-year supervised clinical practice in a face to face setting (150 hours).
  • Good working knowledge of issues relating to all aspects of mental health.
  • Ability to use initiative while working individually or as part of a team
  • Experience of working with mental health issues
  • An ability to recognise and appropriately deal with risk
  • Accreditation with NCS, BACP or ICAP (or working on accreditation)
  • Computer literacy

Desirable

  • Ability to counsel through a range of mediums
  • Experience working in the voluntary sector

Terms & conditions

  • Clinical supervision: sessional counsellors required to have 1.5 hours per month by an approved supervisor. 
  • Notice period of one month on either side required.
  • Attendance at a formal induction and ongoing training will be required.
  • Any appointment will be subject to an Access NI Check (Enhanced)

Additional Requirement:

Must have Professional Indemnity insurance for up £2-3Million.
